The Book Illustration Competition 2018 is now closed.
Read these three Sherlock Holmes stories – A Scandal in Bohemia, The Man With the Twisted Lip and The Musgrave Ritual. To enter the competition you need to provide an illustration for each story and a binding design for the collection – The Selected Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. You must submit your three illustrations plus your binding design via this website by 9am GMT on Wednesday 17 January 2018.
PLEASE NOTE: due to server issues, the deadline has been extended until 5pm GMT on Wednesday 17 January 2018.
1. Create three illustrations, one for each of the stories listed above
Your illustrations must be portrait, not landscape, and your entry should be finished artwork. Please download and read the instructions below very carefully before starting work.
2. Design a binding for the collection
You should also design a binding for the collection as a whole. Please download and read the instructions below very carefully before beginning work.
3. Register online
We will only accept entries via the online form on this website. You need to register, after which we will send you a confirmation email with your login details. Please check your spam folder for this email if it doesn’t arrive immediately.
4. Upload your images and captions
Your three illustrations and binding design must be submitted in the same entry (please keep the ‘Ready To Enter Button’ at ‘No’ until all your images have been uploaded).
The online form also allows you to give each illustration a title and caption. Work may be disqualified if the specifications outlined in the BIC 2018 Binding and Illustrations Information (download the PDF above) are not met in full.
Please retain high-resolution copies of your three illustrations and binding design with correct specifications: if you are longlisted we will contact you and ask for these files.
- Read and accept the Terms and Conditions
All entrants must be over 18 and not previously published by The Folio Society. By submitting entries to the competition, you are confirming that you have read, understood and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
- Pay your entry fee
Once you have completed the form and accepted the Terms and Conditions, you will be taken to Paypal to pay for your entry. If you do not already have a Paypal account, you will need to set one up first. The competition entry fee is £25, or £15 for students (you must be able to provide evidence of student status).
We will send you a confirmation email once payment has been received and your application has been successfully submitted.
The final deadline for entries to the competition is 9am GMT on Wednesday 17 January 2018. We strongly recommend completing your entry earlier if possible, to avoid running into any last-minute issues. Late entries will not be considered.
